MBALMAYO'

At the invitation of Bishop Adalbert Ndzana, the CMOP arrived in Cameroon on July the 9th, 1998, in the diocese of Mbalmayo, 40 km from Yaoundé. A few years later, on the outskirts of a small village called Nseng Nlong IV, the Community's home was built.

The site of the Cameroonian foundation is significant not only for its physical closeness to the poor, but also for the history of the place itself. The Oasis, in fact, was erected on a hill called Nkol Maria ("hill of Mary") or Nkol-Ebindi ("hill of meditation"). Here stands, even today, a large white cross which had previously become a pilgrimage destination to intercede for peace, and a memorial to the violence during the civil war.

On the 8th of December 2007, our Sanctuary, dedicated to the Queen of Peace, was inaugurated, as a place designated to implore peace for the entire African land and avert violence and war. 

On May the 13th, 2014, a retreat house was opened on the grounds of the Community, offering hospitality for prayer, recollection and formation. The Mbalmayo Oasis thus combines contemplation, pastoral action and proximity to the poor.

"Remembering that the Oasis of Peace lives in the heart of every consecrated person, we are called to live, always and in all circumstances, in the spirit and style of our life, and to be always and everywhere peacemakers in the world" (RdV 124).

Wherever a member of the CMOP lives or works, there the Community is. Aggregated spouses and consecrated seculars are an integral part of our Ecclesial Family and work, in their respective ecclesial realities, in communion with the local Bishop and the Holy Father. In this way we are present in other regions of Italy, Brazil and other countries scattered throughout the world.
