Our presence in the archdiocese of Foggia - Bovino dates back to October 16, 1993, when some brothers and sisters established themselves in the Convent of Our Lady of Consolation in Deliceto. This convent was formerly a Redemptorist house and is of special historical value. It is located among the hills and oak forest, a few kilometers from the township.
The Consolation was actually founded in 1470 even before the redemptorists were settled there by some hermit friars of the Order of St. Augustine led by Blessed Felix of Corsano. Father Felix, a theologian and scholar, gave birth to a reform of the Augustinian rule here in the Consolation, called the Delicetana rule. Blessed Felix died and was buried in the Consolation around 1529 and was considered by all to be a saint. Underneath the Convent of Consolation is a cave named after Blessed Felix, who used to retire there in prayer and meditation.
In 1652 the Augustinians left the Convent of Consolation, which, after almost a century of having been entrusted by the local bishops to the care of a few "hermits," was eventually entrusted in 1744 to the recently formed Congregation of the Redemptorists, who would remain there until 1866.
Of special historic note is the memory of St. Gerard Maiella who lived the greater part of his religious life in the Consolation and also St. Alphonsus M. de Liguori, Founder of the Redemptorists, who not only lived in the Consolation but wrote many of his famous works there. It is believed that here he wrote the popular Italian Christmas carol "Tu scendi dalle stelle".
Home to the novitiate of the CMOP, the Deliceto convent is also a vibrant center of spirituality and hospitality. Its location, among fields of wheat and oak forests, allows an atmosphere of special contemplation and connection with nature for individuals and groups. On July 20th, 2020, the church of St. Mary of Consolation was erected as a diocesan Sanctuary.

OASIS IN THE WORLD
"Remembering that the Oasis of Peace lives in the heart of every consecrated person, we are called to live, always and in all circumstances, in the spirit and style of our life, and to be always and everywhere peacemakers in the world" (RdV 124).
Wherever a member of the CMOP lives or works, there the Community is. Aggregated spouses and consecrated seculars are an integral part of our Ecclesial Family and work, in their respective ecclesial realities, in communion with the local Bishop and the Holy Father. In this way we are present in other regions of Italy, Brazil and other countries scattered throughout the world.
