QUIXADA' (CE)

QUIXADA'

Quixadà is the Community's first location in Brazil, in the northeastern state of Ceará. We arrived on January 8th, 1994, at the invitation of Bishop Adelio Tomasin, and within a few years the convent and the Sanctuary dedicated to Maria Rainha do Sertão were built. From the very beginning the animation and the care of the sanctuary has been entrusted to the community.

The Sanctuary, has become a popular destination for pilgrimages from various regions. It stands on an enormous rock formation overlooking the town of Quixadá in the Sertão region.  These impressive rock formations emerge here and there upon the Sertao plains and the panorama from the sanctuary location commands awe and contemplation, recollection and pacification of the heart. The Quixadá house is a place of retreat and fraternal hospitality, as well as a house of formation in preparation for religious consecration.

To counteract the extreme poverty of the area, the Community has also established in the nearby village of Monte Alegre a center for assistance and cultural formation.

How to get

Arrival by bus: from Fortaleza, to the Sanctuary Nossa Senhora Imaculada Rainha do Sertão where our community is located. At the Fortaleza bus station, take the Fretcar or Guanabara bus. Timetables can be found on the website of these travel companies. Arriving in Quixadá take a taxi to the Sanctuary.

Arrival by car: take the BR 116 in Aerolândia Viale Senador Carlos Jereissati (7min 5.5 km). Continue on BR 116 and BR 122 to Quixadá (2 hours and 1min 164 km) • Take the Dr. Alessandro Nottegar road to the destination (18min 8.2 km)

Wherever a member of the CMOP lives or works, there the Community is. Aggregated spouses and consecrated seculars are an integral part of our Ecclesial Family and work, in their respective ecclesial realities, in communion with the local Bishop and the Holy Father. In this way we are present in other regions of Italy, Brazil and other countries scattered throughout the world.
